Obituary for Melvin L. Leake, Sr.

Melvin Lee Leake, Sr., 66, of Berryville, Virginia, died Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at his residence.

Mr. Leake was born December 9, 1945 in Clarke County, Virginia, the son of Aubrey Haywood Leake Sr., and Gladys Virginia Zombro Leake.

He was retired from Midwesco Filter Resources where he was the supervisor of the welding department.

He served as a Staff Sergeant in the U. S. Army and served three tours in Vietnam. He received many medals and awards for bravery and courage during his 18 years of service.

He was a member of Charles Town Presbyterian Church; Berryville VFW Post #9760; and a former member of Jefferson County Ruritan Club.

He married Ruthmary Huyett Puster Leake on March 21, 1989 in Berkeley County, West Virginia.

Surviving with his wife are four daughters, Patricia Ferguson and her husband, David of Berryville, VA, Theresa Leake of Germany, Sara Abood and her husband, Joseph of Berryville, VA and Alison Burns and her husband, Adam of Charles Town, WV; two sons, James Shackelford and his fiancé, Amanda Stouter of Summit Point, WV and Melvin Lee Leake, Jr. of West Virginia; three sisters, Betty Lloyd of Berryville, VA, Charlotte Golding of Chester, VA and Norma Malone of Winchester, VA; a brother, John Edward Leake of Berryville, VA; six grandchildren, Crystal, Tori, Michael, Destiny, Dannika and Jarrett; and two great grandchildren.

A son, David Leake and three brothers, William B. Leake, Herbert O. Leake and Aubrey H. Leake preceded him in death.

A funeral service will be held 10:00 A. M. Monday, July 16, 2012 at Enders & Shirley Funeral Home Chapel, Berryville, VA. Burial will follow in Shenandoah Memorial Park Mausoleum, Winchester, VA.

Pallbearers will be Chris Presgraves, Darrel Lloyd, Rodney Lloyd, Jim Shackelford, Melvin Leake, Jr. and Andy Franklin.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 – 5:00 P. M. Sunday afternoon at the funeral home.

Military Honors will be provided by the Clarke County Honor Guard.
