Rae Fletcher Harpe, 84, of Vienna, Virginia, passed away on March 12, 2012. For the past three years she had been a resident of Sunrise Assisted Living in Oakton, Virginia. She was born on April 18, 1927 in Berryville, Virginia, to the late Dan and Selene Fletcher. She was predeased in death by her beloved husband Ralph W. Harpe (1979) and by her sisters, Lois Fletcher (2003) and Jean Fletcher Spivey (2006).
After graduating from Berryville High School in 1945, Rae moved to Washington, D.C. In 1951 she married Ralph W. Harpe from New Albany, Indiana and they settled in Vienna, Virginia in 1955 where they raised three children. In 1998, Rae relocated to Oakton, Virginia.
Throughout her life, Rae was active in the church and was a member of the Vienna Presbyterian Church for over forty-five years, where she had served as a deacon, as well as in various church and charity-related activities. Rae was kind, loving and caring and will be remembered for these qualities by everyone who knew her.
Rae is survived by daugher and son-in-law, Stephanie and John Lillard of Denton, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Cary Himes of Ashburn, Virginia; and son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Celsie Harpe of Stafford, Virginia; grandchildren, Bryan Lillard; Kimberly Lillard Benson and husband Brandon Benson; Laura Harpe Bennett and husband Ray Bennett; Amanda Harpe; John Harpe; Lovely Harpe; Kyla Harpe and Ashley Himes.
Family and friends are invited to Mrs. Harpe’s Life Celebration at Money and King Funeral Home, 171 W. Maple Avenue, Vienna, Virginia on Monday, March 19 from 6-8:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held at Vienna Presbyterian Church, 124 Park Street, NE, Vienna, VA on Tuesday, March 20 at 12:45 P.M. Interment will follow at Arlington National Cemetery.
