Obituary for Raymond William Pierce

Raymond William Pierce, 68, of Berryville passed away on June 4, 2012 at his residence.

Ray (Raymond) was born September 6, 1943 in Loudoun County, Virginia, the son of Bessie and Cecil O. Pierce.

His work career was in insurance and real estate sales.  For the past 20 years, he has owned and operated retail locations for the sale of fireworks.

Ray was a proud member of the Men’s Auxiliary VFW Post 9760 in honor of his son Hunter’s service in the Marine Corps.  He was a member of St. Luke’s United Church of Christ, County Line, Timberville, VA.  Some of the joys of his life were the growing of prized dinner plate dahlias in the flowerbeds in his yard, time spent with his beloved Miniature Schnauzer Gus, RV trips with Mary Jane to Florida and camping on the river with his children and grandchildren.

He married Mary Jane Lytton Mercer Pierce on May 17, 1980.

Surviving with his wife are his children, Hunter Pierce and his wife Megan, Tim Mercer and his wife, Stephanie, Lisa Holmes and her husband Chris, Elizabeth Mercer, John Mercer and his wife Colleen, Sean Pierce, and Scott Pierce and his wife Christie and his grandchildren, Whitney Mercer, Allison Mercer, Ashley Matters, Claire Holmes, Olivia Holmes, Caden Mercer, Johnny Mercer, Chance Pierce, Jackson Pierce, Alex Pierce, Gracie Pierce, Beau Pierce, Logan Pierce, and Eric Pierce.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A. M., Thursday, June 7, 2012 at St. Luke’s UCC County Line, Timberville, VA with Rev. Joel Walkley officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Luke’s Cemetery.  Directions to St. Luke’s County Line can be found on the Enders & Shirley website.  Pallbearers will be Hunter Ray Pierce, Timothy Scott Mercer, John Douglas Mercer, Christopher Michael Holmes, Sean Patrick Pierce, and Christopher Scott Pierce.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 – 8:30 P. M. Wednesday, June 6, 2012 evening at the Enders & Shirley Funeral Home, Berryville.
