Robert Russell Tyler, Jr., 82, of Berryville, VA, died Monday, September 20, 2010, at Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Tyler was born January 22, 1928 in Hammond, IN, the son of Robert R. Tyler, Sr., and Rosaline Sirbek Tyler.
Mr. Tyler served in the United States Merchant Marine during WWII and later enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served as a small arms weapons mechanic. After serving in the Army he studied to become a Marine Engineer. He last worked for Maritrans, Inc. as a relief Chief Engineer.
He was a member of the Mickey Mouse Club and the Marine Engineers’ Beneficial Association. He began working with his father in construction at a young age. Bob loved wildlife, working with his hands, sculpting in metal and wood, and building furniture, boats, and two homes with the help of his beloved wife, Eloise.
Mr. Tyler married Eloise Perkins on November 20, 1950 in Northbrook, IL. Mrs. Tyler died February 7, 2010.
He is survived by his daughter, Linda T. Canterbury of Berryville, VA; and his son, Robert R. Tyler III of Orange City, FL.
Private services will be held in Chestertown, MD.
