Robert Wesley Bayliss, Sr. (Bob), 79, of Berryville, died Tuesday May 10, 2011 at Winchester Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Bob was born January 19, 1932, the son of the late Edwin A. Bayliss, Sr. and Mona Elizabeth Bayliss. He was the founder and owner of R. W. Bayliss Sr. Plumbing & Electrical Company in Berryville. He retired in 2000, but always stayed in touch with his employees to lend a helping hand when called upon.
He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a devoted and lifelong member of John H. Enders Fire & Rescue Co. in Berryville, serving as Chief from 1963-1970, and was also a member of the American Legion #0041, VFW Post 9760, and Winchester Elks Lodge #867.
He married Carol T. Bayliss on May 15, 1971 in Berryville. Surviving in addition to his wife, are son Robert W. Bayliss, Jr. (Wes), and his wife Ann of Winchester; stepson Sam M. Levi and his wife Joanna of Berryville; stepson Kevin B. Levi and his wife Teresa of Winchester; granddaughter Megan Bayliss of Inwood, West Virginia; granddaughter Emily N. Levi of Winchester; nieces Sandy Funk of North Carolina, Sylvia Seal of Berryville, and Missy Moses of Stephens City; and nephew J.D. Tomblin of Stephens City. A brother, Eddie A. Bayliss preceded him in death.
We are truly grateful for his life and the time we shared and we are blessed with our wonderful memories that reflect on a life well lived. A memorial service will be held Monday evening, May 16, at 7:00 PM at Enders and Shirley Funeral home in Berryville, Virginia. Burial will be private.
Honorary pallbearers will be Carter Strader, Al Lineberg, Richard King, Daily Broy, Warren Broy, Larry Radar, members of the American Legion Post 9760 and J. H. Enders Fire Company. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to John H. Enders Fire Company, 9 S. Buckmarsh St., Berryville, VA 22611.
