Obituary for Wayne Benton Ferrell

Wayne Benton Ferrell, 92, of Berryville, VA, died Friday, July 1, 2011 at his residence.

Mr. Ferrell was born June 24, 1919 in Durham County, NC, the son of the late Edgar Lee and Virgie Estelle Green Ferrell.

He was a member of Olive Branch Baptist Church in Durham, NC.

He graduated from Wake Forest University in 1941. He attended graduate school at NC State and Duke University. He served in the U. S. Army Air Corp in the 3rd Ferrying Group as a 1st Lieutenant during WWII. He was stationed in Southeast Asia and India.

He married Frances Clay Preddy on May 4, 1944 in Oxford, NC.

He worked for the Federal Government for 35 years.

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years. He has two sons, Wayne Benton Ferrell, Jr of Boyce, VA and his wife, Janet, and their children, Katherine Rose, Daniel Benton, James Alan, and Robert Clay Ferrell and Beverly Clay “B.C.” Ferrell of Lake Wylie, SC and his wife, Brenda, and children, Sean Michael and Casey Michelle Ferrell. He is also survived by two brothers, Rudolph Ferrell of Raleigh, NC and Matthew Ferrell of Charleston, WV, four great-grand children and a number of very dear nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Marion Durham and two brothers, John Ferrell and Paul Ferrell.

The family will receive friends 7:00 – 9:00 P. M. Tuesday, July 5, evening at the Enders & Shirley Funeral Home, Berryville. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 6, at the Berryville Baptist Church with Rev. Dan Stanley officiating.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 A. M. Saturday, July 9, at Corinth Baptist Church, Oxford, NC. Family will receive friends at 10A.M. at the church prior to the service. The burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Daniel Benton Ferrell, James Alan Ferrell, Robert Clay Ferrell, Sean Michael Ferrell, Casey Michelle Ferrell, and Joshua Kerr-Hobert. Honorary pallbearers will be Walter Preddy, Steve Preddy, Michael Preddy, and Earl Harward.
