Obituary for William R. “Billy” Thompson II

William Raymond Thompson II, 72, of White Post, Virginia, died Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at his residence.

Billy was born December 13, 1938 in Winchester, Virginia, the son of William Raymond Thompson and Georgia Armel Thompson.

He was owner and founder of White Post Restorations.

He was a former president of the Clarke County Chamber of Commerce.   He was a member of the Clarke County Historical Association and Industrial Development Authority.   A community benefactor who always promoted tourism in Clarke County, he organized Clarke County’s Sesquicentennial Celebration in 1986.   He was honored as Citizen of the Year for Clarke County in 1983.

In the community of White Post, he was dubbed the “Unofficial Mayor”.   He successfully petitioned the state to put White Post on the map and took great pride in maintaining White Post’s “white post”.

He was married to the late Betty Allamong Thompson.

Surviving are a son, W. R. Thompson III and his wife, Laura; a daughter, Susan Morris and her husband, Clay; and three grandchildren, Billy Ray Thompson IV, Talon Morris, and Emmalene Morris, all of White Post, VA.

Funeral services will be private.
