Lewis Milton Sowers, Sr., 87, of Berryville, Virginia, died Friday, December 10, 2010 in the Blue Ridge Hospice Residential Center, Winchester.
Mr. Sowers was born October 8, 1923 in Middleburg, Virginia, the son of the late Hubert Sowers and Eva Moore Grey Sowers.
He was retired from E. E. Lyons Construction in Vienna, where he was a heavy equipment operator.
He had served in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War.
He married Mary Kathleen Keefer Sowers on November 20, 1948 in Frederick, Maryland.
Surviving with his wife of Berryville, VA are three daughters, Eva Louise Suddueth of Winchester, VA, Wanda Kay Holbert of Ashburn, VA and Trudy April Johnson of Illinois; two sons, Lewis Milton Sowers, Jr. of New Hampshire and Larry Middleton Sowers, Sr. of Edinburg, VA; three sisters, Louise Hudson of Warrenton, VA, Peggy Mathis of Georgia and Nancy Jewell of North Carolina; four brothers, Richard Lee Sowers, Robert Sowers, James Sowers and Jack Sowers all of Warrenton, VA; 14 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren.
A granddaughter, Jessica Sowers, a sister, Eva Katherine Sowers and three brothers, Frenchie, Delbert and Sonny Sowers preceded him in death.
The family would like to thank his son, Larry Middleton Sowers, Sr. for his devotion in taking care of his dad during his long illness.
A funeral service will be held 1:00 P. M. Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at the Enders & Shirley Funeral Home Chapel, Berryville with Rev. Adam Sowder officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Berryville.
Military honors will be provided by the Berryville VFW post 9760.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 9:00 P. M. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
