Pedestrian Struck and Killed on Route 50

An early morning accident involving a tractor trailer and a pedestrian claimed the life of a Front Royal man Sunday, June 3, 2012.

The accident occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m. when the pedestrian, identified as thirty-four year old Kevin Robert Hughes, stepped into the traffic lanes of Route 50 approximately four tenths of a mile from Route 665. A 2007 Freightliner tractor trailer traveling westbound struck Hughes in the roadway.

Hughes died on the scene from his injuries.

Alcohol was involved in the accident on the part of the pedestrian. No charges were filed against the driver of the truck.

The incident is being investigated by Trooper D.R. Ayers. Clarke County Sheriff’s Deputies also responded to the scene.
