Repairs to Railroad Bridge Span the Holiday

While most of us enjoyed a day off for the 4th of July holiday, contractors for Norfolk Southern Railroad and employees of VDOT were taking advantage of a slow traffic day for trains   to make some much needed repairs to a bridge in Clarke County. The existing bridge over Bishop Meade Road (Route 255) had deteriorated to the point that officials had to place a 10 MPH speed restriction for trains crossing over it. L.C. Whitford Company was hired by the Railroad to replace bridge decking.

Work on the bridge ran from 6:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. on July 4th. According to VDOT representative Gregory Hoffman, the contractor has completed the lane closing portion of the work.   The contractor still needs to complete   painting work on the walls of the bridge but Hoffman said they should be finished with that portion of the work late today or early tomorrow.

Both lanes are open at this time.
