The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will temporarily close the Route 761 (Old Charlestown Road) Bridge over Opequon Creek for repairs. The structure is located at the Clarke and Frederick County line from 3 miles west of Route 632 to 0.96 mile east of Route 666.
VDOT contractor Lanford Brothers is closing the low water structure in order to make necessary repairs to bridge piers. Flooding and overweight vehicles crossing the bridge were also a factor in the decision to close this section of Route 761. A sign is posted at the site stating that vehicles over 16- tons are prohibited from using the bridge.
The bridge closure will begin on Monday, Dec. 19 at 7 a.m. and is estimated to reopen on Friday, Dec. 30 at 5 p.m. A detour will be posted.
