Winchester, Va.  – Dr. Miles K. Davis, an internationally recognized educator and proven business leader, has been named the new dean of Shenandoah University’s Harry F. Byrd, Jr. School of Business. His appointment is effective July 1, 2012.

Davis is currently associate professor of management at Shenandoah and founding director of the Harry F. Byrd, Jr. School of Business Institute for Entrepreneurship.

“We are very pleased to announce Dr. Miles Davis as the new dean of Shenandoah University’s Harry F. Byrd, Jr. School of Business,” said Senior Vice President and Vice President for Academic Affairs Bryon Grigsby. “He has continually shown a commitment to excellence in his interactions with our students and faculty, and his enthusiasm and passion for business and entrepreneurship will serve him well in his new capacity.”

Davis has over 15 years of university teaching experience and served as the inaugural chair of the Management Science department at Shenandoah from 2003 to 2005. He is also currently a managing partner at The Prosperity Fund, LLC and a principal at Davis, Adolphe and Gibson, LLC.

Davis replaces Dean W. Randy Boxx, who played an integral role in the business school achieving Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International accreditation in 2007. This accreditation is considered the highest standard of achievement for business schools worldwide. Halpin-Harrison Hall, a $13 million building which houses the business school and was dedicated in 2008, was also completed during Boxx’s tenure.

“We thank Dean Boxx for his years of service to Shenandoah University and to the Harry F. Byrd, Jr. School of Business,” said Shenandoah University President Tracy Fitzsimmons. “His dynamic approach to educating young men and women to be successful in the business world makes all the difference and will leave a lasting impact on Shenandoah University.  I am confident that Dr. Miles Davis will build upon the successes of past deans Randy Boxx and Stanley Harrision, and will lead the business school to even greater acclaim.”

Davis is an authority on entrepreneurship and his most recent work focuses on the areas of integrity, values and principles within the business world, as well as faith-based entrepreneurship. He is also active in helping businesses and organizations with cultural and structural changes, strategic planning, leadership development and strategic growth initiatives. Davis has worked as a managing consultant and principal for EDS Corporation and has consulted for Boeing Corporation and The United States Mint.

“This is an exciting opportunity and I am honored that the university chose me to continue a legacy of bringing out the best in our students,” said Davis. “I am very excited to begin a new role within the Harry F. Byrd, Jr. School of Business, and look forward to our future successes and endeavors. I also want to acknowledge the legacy of Senator Byrd; from his first establishment of the Harry F. Byrd, Jr. School of Business in 1984 to the AACSB accredited institution we are today.”

Davis is the author of numerous journal articles and a book chapter, and published a book entitled OD and Change Management Consultants in 2009. He serves on the Executive Committee of the Strategic Research Council and the Board of Trustees of Amana Mutual Funds Trust. Davis earned a bachelor’s degree in communications from Duquesne University, a master’s degree in human resource development from Bowie State University and a doctorate in organization behavior and management from The George Washington University.
