Shenandoah Valley Youth Lacrosse League

184972_lacrosse_series_1WPRD recently teamed up with Frederick County Parks and Recreation, Clarke County Parks and Recreation, Shenandoah County Parks and Recreation, Powhatan School, the Sportsplex and Shenandoah County Lacrosse to form the Shenandoah Valley Youth Lacrosse League.

WPRD Athletics Coordinator Jennifer Justice says the collaboration of different departments and organizations made sense for many reasons.   “Everyone, within our own organizations, is trying to bring the sport of lacrosse to the Northern Shenandoah Valley.   Lacrosse is extremely popular in places like Loudoun County and Charlottesville.   We thought if we combined our resources we could give kids in our area the chance to learn this fast growing sport without having to travel so far.”

To kick things off, the league will hold a LAX Fest at the Sportsplex on January 3, 2010 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.   There will be free clinics, informational sessions, interactive games and exhibition games by Shenandoah University and Powhatan’s Alumni lacrosse teams.   Vendors will be on hand to answer any equipment questions.   For more information on the SVYL, visit their website, email, or call 540-665-5678 (ask for Jason Brown).
