Drivers using eastbound Route 7 from Winchester to Beulah Road just west of Tysons Corner may experience some traffic slowdowns on Tuesday, Feb. 7 and Wednesday, Feb. 8 because of wide-load deliveries related to Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project construction. Traffic along Beulah Road from the Dulles Toll Road north to Route 7 also will be affected.
The trucks will leave Winchester at 9 a.m.
They will be delivering components of a traction power substation to a location off Chathams Ford Drive adjacent to the eastbound lanes of Dulles Toll Road immediately east of Beulah Road.
Each day, three trucks, each accompanied by three pilot cars, will create a rolling blockade when delivering the components. Traffic disruptions can be expected as the trucks and escort vehicles move along the roads.
The trucks should arrive on Beulah/Chathams Ford at approximately 11 a.m. (on both days). The other deliveries will follow at approximately 1 ½ hour intervals to avoid morning traffic and school bus pick-up and drop-offs.
The traction power substation is part of the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project. These components have been manufactured in Ohio and will be transported to the site on six flatbed trucks (three per day) following a route approved by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles:
- I-81 South into Virginia from points north and west
- East on Route 7 (Leesburg Pike)
- Right on to Beulah Road, then across the Dulles Toll Road bridge
- Left on to Chathams Ford Drive.
These heavy haul transport trucks will be operated by Miller Transfer, a subcontractor for Dulles Transit Partners, the design-build contractor for the rail project,
Today, Monday, Feb. 6, a large crane that will be used to lift the components from the trucks to a concrete slab that is already in place at the site will be placed at the site via the eastbound lanes of the Dulles Toll Road.
