Glad there was a deputy on duty on this particular night. Good job to our civil servants on catching the bad guy.

    • Clarke Eagle says:

The “suspect” was arrested 17 hours after the shooting incident occurred. The deputy arrived after the fact. What function did the deputy perform? Take a report? After the initial shooting this was the initial report from the Sheriffs office.

“If anyone has information about this crime or the location of John Archie Tigney, please contact the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office at 540-955-1234.”

If sounds like if a deputy was not on duty that night there would have been no difference in this case. Someone would have phoned in a description and name of the suspect and some civil servant would have picked up the suspect 17 hours later.

      • Situations can occur JUST like this regardless if they have one deputy or twenty deputies. Obviously a call is placed after the fact and if the suspect leaves before the arrival of the deputy and they don’t know where the person went, how else do you expect this to play out?

  2. No one was likely on duty, they just called someone out that was off duty. Like Andy calling Barnie and having him leave his home to go take care of business (make a report). It’s not so much about Protect and Serve as it is Protect and Profit with CC Sherriff

  3. There is no Profit in being a Sheriff or Deputy and that type of mentality is why they are needed.

I know the Sheriff & many of his deputies; they have always been polite and courteous to me, and I can guarantee you they care deeply about the safety of our county and its citizens. To expect a police officer to be able to be instantly on the scene, or immediately make an arrest is unreasonable.

I can’t believe reading “The deputy arrived after the fact.” of course he did, was he supposed to look into his crystal ball and arrive before the crime?

The article stated “Mr. Tigney fled the scene prior to the arrival of Deputies and his whereabouts are currently unknown” then the less than 24 hours later they had a suspect in custody. I would be shocked if the suspect was waiting at home for them, and think that a 17 hour arrival / investigation / arrest is pretty good. Just like Andy & Barnie, our Clarke County Sheriff’s officers do leave home off duty to come to our aid. Many thanks to our hard working officers in brown.

  5. The deputy did his job, which is to show up and amongst other things, begin the process of cleaning up the mess. Which is what the police do. Just because they cant be in 2000 places at the same time protecting all of us doesnt mean they dont do a good job at what they do.

  6. Curiosity killed the cat says:

Awesome job to the boys in brown!!! Another felon off the roads in less than 24 hours. Thank you to those who serve and protect our community.
