A tradition steeped in the agrarian heritage of Clarke County began for the 58th time Sunday afternoon as the Clarke County Fair held its opening ceremonies to kick-off a week full of activities and exhibits.  The fair in Clarke County is well known throughout the area and attracts visitors from far and wide who come to experience the unique setting and traditional events. For locals, fair week is a special time of the year. All other activities fall subordinate to the fair’s full schedule. It represents the end of summer and is a place and time where, as they say at the fair,  “new memories are made and old memories are shared.”

Town of Berryville Mayor Wilson Kirby spoke at the opening ceremony and said, “The fair always offers the opportunity to have family fun and great food,” and added that he had ordered up some fine weather for the week.

Also welcoming attendees was the Chairman of the Clarke County Board of Supervisors, Michael Hobert who brought along some back-up this year as his young grandson, Michael, took the podium with Mr Hobert. “I asked Michael to join me because The Clarke County Fair is not just a community tradition, It’s a family tradition. We like the animals we like the rides, we like the shows and we like the food.” Hobert promoted the much lauded Ruritan’s chicken dinners calling the meals served nightly at the fair, “The best deal in town.”

After the opening ceremonies had concluded the fair launched into the traditional first events with the Junior Miss Clarke County Fair and the Miss Clarke County Fair Pageants.

  1. Wow. It’s already Thursday and not one article about the fair other than the pageant. I thought this site was about News and Events in Clarke County Virginia?

  2. I guess the fair didn’t happen this weekend. That’s sad.
