The Weekend in Clarke

Forecasters are calling for a beautiful weekend as we approach the official beginning of summer. Temperatures should be in the upper eighties and skies will be partly to mostly cloudy with only a chance of afternoon thunderstorms. Enjoy the good weather while it lasts with some great outdoor activities in Clarke. Here’s what’s happening.

Start your weekend with a bountiful harvest at the Clarke County Farmer’s market. Choose from a wealth of locally grown plants and produce . There’s also lots of tasty treats to choose from so stop buy and get something good. The market is open from 8:00 Am until 12 noon.

The 4-H club is holding a car wash/bake sale Saturday morning   in Broy’s parking lot on Buckmarsh. Stop by get a clean car, a homemade baked treat, and support the members of the 4-H club in Clarke.

Enjoy an outdoor celebration at HarvFest. This one-day festival celebrates local food, farming, and history. Clarke County’s rich agricultural and historical heritage will be showcased via local food and drink vendors, farming demonstrations, and historic tours and displays. Admission is $5 per person, kids under 12 are admitted free. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. HarvFest is hosted by and benefits The Clermont Foundation and Clarke County Parks and Recreation.

Happy Birthday Virginia State Parks! Help celebrate the 75th birthday on June 18th at Sky Meadows State Park, Delaplane, VA. Enjoy live music, free cake, and homemade ice cream.   Learn about the history of Virginia State Parks and the past, present, and future.   Activities include a kids crafts station; make a take-home artifact from 10a.m.-2p.m.   From 1-4p.m., stop by the historic Mount Bleak House for a docent-led tour.   At 3p.m. learn about Geocaching, a world-wide outdoor treasure hunt that uses GPS technology. Finish up a busy Saturday with a Spaghetti Dinner and Silent Auction at Crums Untied Methodist Church. The event starts at 5:00 P.M.   All proceeds go to support the Church’s Botswana Africa Mission Team.   The team will be leaving on July 21 to go to Mochudi, Botswana, to work with the children of Stepping Stones International for two weeks.

Don’t forget, Sunday is Father’s Day. Treat dear old dad to a brunch downtown or visit Veramar vineyard as they celebrate Father’s Day. Enjoy a “man-tastic” meal of Italian Sausage/Potato Roast.
