The Weekend in Clarke County

The first official weekend of the summer is upon us and the weather forecast looks fantastic. Sunny skies wit a few passing clouds and temps in the low to mid-eighties means it will be perfect weather to get out and enjoy the great outdoors. Here’s what’s happening in and around Clarke County.

Start off Saturday with a trip to the Clarke County Farmer’s Market. More summer fruits and vegetables are appearing each week. Some favorites that are available this week are fresh beets, boysenberries and and summer squash. Stop by and get something good. Market runs from 8:00AM to 12 noon.

Travel a short distance over the state line and enjoy Shepherdstown Street Fest 2011. Festivities start at 10 am and the event is free and open to the public. Features include kids activities all day and lots of live musical performances including Clarke County’s own, Golden Butter Band. For more information, check out their website at shepherdstownstreetfest.org.

Take part in the Great American Backyard Campout at Sky Meadows State Park this weekend. Once a year, they open the Historic Mount Bleak backyard to campers so don’t miss this unique opportunity!   Celebrate nature and the great outdoors for 24 hours.   Activities will begin at Noon and run throughout the day and into the evening.   For more information call 540-592-3556 or visit www.virginiastateparks.gov.
