The Town Council had a full agenda at the April meeting with six public hearings for a variety of matters. Despite the unusually large number of issues the meeting proceeded swiftly as no citizens spoke at any of the public hearings. Motions passed by the council included:
Proposed Tax Rates for 2012
Tax Levies for the year 2012 were set. Rates passed include:
- $0.116 per $100 assessed value for real estate within the Town of Berryville
- $1.00 per $100 assessed value for personal property other than machinery and tools within the Town of Berryville
- $1.168 per $100 assessed value for machinery and tools within the Town of Berryville
Sewer User Rate Increase
The Town approved the planned increase of the sewer rate from $14.00 per thousand gallons used to $15.50 per thousand gallon used. This is part of the schedule of increases required for the town to pay for the new sewage treatment plant. Rate increase will go into effect July 1, 2012.
Water and Sewer Fees Charges
The town approved an amended schedule of fees which included several increases in deposits and service fees.
Changes to Planning and Zoning Fees
The Town updated the fees for planning and zoning services which had not been adjusted since 2004. The revised schedule saw ten specific increases for services. The revised schedule was approved by the council.
Repeal and Reenactment of Chapter 17 of Berryville Code (Water, Sewers, and Sewage Disposal)
As part of the agreement to receive funding for the new wastewater treatment facility the town committed to amending its code to incorporate required sewer use regulations. The Council passed the motion unanimously.
Special Use Permit for Home Occupation
Christina Kraybill requested a Special Use permit in order to operate a fair trade retail shop out of her residence at 317 First Street. The Council approved the special use permit.
All council members were in attendance and all votes were unanimous in favor of the actions.
