Tractor Trailer Causes Accident on Route 7 in Clarke County

A Wednesday evening accident on Route 7 brought traffic to a standstill and sent two people to the hospital. The accident occurred at the intersection of business 7 and route 7 in Clarke County near the fairgrounds.

According to Virginia State Trooper M. C. Gremillion, an empty tanker truck heading eastbound on Route 7   ran a red light at the intersection and struck a white Subaru Forester making a left turn onto westbound Route 7. The vehicle went under the drive wheels of the truck and struck the ladder on the tanker sending the vehicle off the shoulder of the road into an adjacent fence line where it caught fire. The driver Alan Scott of Berryville and passenger, Matthew Sheffield were able to crawl from the vehicle to safety. Both men were transported to Winchester Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the truck, Jeffrey Wiley of Delaware, has been charged with failure to obey a traffic signal.

  2. Michelle says:

Good to know the drivers of the Subaru are okay! My husband saw the scene about half an hour after it happened and said it really looked bad, so we were hoping for a positive outcome!
