Two From 4-H Poultry Judging Teams Place in Top 5 for Virginia

4-H Poultry JudgingThe Clarke/Frederick 4-H Poultry Judging Team attended the Virginia State Poultry Judging Contest on April 30, 2010.   There were hundreds of contestants from all over the state of Virginia.   They identified poultry parts, graded ready to cook chickens and turkeys, candled eggs to grade internal quality, graded external eggs for quality, graded cracked out eggs, and judged live production egg layers for quantity of eggs produced.   Coach Brian Cather, one senior, and seven junior local 4-H members attended this year’s contest.   The first Clarke/Frederick Junior Poultry Team placed 1st in the state, and the second Clarke/Frederick Junior Poultry Team placed 5th in the state.
Individual results are as follows:  

Senior:

  • Josiah Always, Paws and Claws 4-H Club, 7th high individual overall

Juniors:

  • Courtney Walls, Round Hill 4-H Club, 1st high junior individual overall
  • Monica Wisecarver, Paws and Claws 4-H Club, 4th high junior individual overall
  • Victoria Miller, Round Hill 4-H Club, 6th high junior individual overall
  • Melissa Denson, Animals R Us 4-H Club, 7th high junior individual overall
  • Victoria Detolla-Cole, Paws and Claws 4-H Club, 8th high junior individual overall
  • Matthew Cather, Paws and Claws 4-H Club, 18th high junior individual overall
  • Bayne Gordon, Paws and Claws 4-H Club, 23rd high junior individual overall
