VDOT urges drivers to stay off the road throughout the weekend

vdotInterstates and other major highways are snow packed but passable for four-wheel-drive vehicles using extreme caution, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation. More than 1,800 snowplows and spreader trucks worked through the night to keep emergency routes passable.

VDOT urges drivers to stay off the road throughout the weekend. Extreme conditions of up to 30 inches of heavy, wet snow and wind gusts up to 30 miles per hour will cause snow to drift, limit visibility and make driving increasingly hazardous. About 18 inches of snow has fallen throughout northern Virginia so far. Motorists can check current weather, road conditions and traffic cameras at www.511Virginia.org or by calling 511.
