Warren County Police Use Spike Strips to End Pursuit on I-66

A police pursuit on I-66 ended abruptly when Warren County Deputies deployed spike sticks to disable the vehicle.

The incident occurred Sunday January 15, 2012 at approximately 11:14 p.m. when the Fauquier County Sheriff’s office contacted officials in Warren County. A pursuit in progress was headed westbound into Warren County and Fauquier officials were seeking Warren County assistance.

Responding to the call Warren County Deputy Robert Mumaw positioned his cruiser at mile marker 10 while Sgt. Josh Seal positioned himself at mile marker 6 with spike strips.

When the pursuit passed mile marker 10 Deputy Mumaw joined the pursuit behind the Fauquier County vehicle.  As the pursuit reached  mile marker 6, Sgt. Seal successfully deployed the spike strips and destroyed 3 of the 4 tires on the fleeing vehicle.  The vehicle continued to travel westbound to the 4.5 mile marker where it finally pulled over and stopped.

The driver of the vehicle, Mark A. Hoover, 106B Price Dr, Bridgewater VA, age 21, was apprehended and turned over to Fauquier County deputies on the scene.  A female passenger in the vehicle was not charged and was released at the scene.
