Two-time West Virginia Breeders Classics winner Russell Road was named the 2011 West Virginia Horse Of The Year at the West Virginia Thoroughbred Breeders Association’s annual awards dinner held Sunday at the Clarion Hotel in Shepherdstown, West Virginia.
Bred by Robert H. Lloyd of Clarke County, and owned by Mark Russell, the horse amassed 19 victories in 32 races. Russelll Road was also awarded special recognition for joining the West Virginia millionaire’s club, after earning more than $1.1 million.
Russell Road hails from Taylor Mountain Farm in Jefferson County, which was also named the West Virginia Breeder of the Year. Jim Casey who owns the farm is a Clarke County native.
